Dhanteras

  • Date: Thursday, 19 October 2017
  • Event: Diwali
Dhanteras literally means ‘wealth’ (Dhan mean Wealth in Hindi ) & ’13th’ (tera in Hindi) – that’s because it is a day celebrating wealth and is marked on the 13th day of the month of Kartik as per Hindu Calendar. Traditionally Hindus buy gold and silver jewellery or utensils on Dhanteras as well as starting new business ventures, buying new clothes, wearing jewellery and lighting the first lamp of Diwali to keep away Yama, the God of Death.

Dhanteras festival isn’t about money & gold accumulation but more to do with the wealth of happiness, health and the soul. Most of the Businesses in India decorate their businesses, light lamps and worship Goddess Lakshmi in form of Gold Coins, Currency etc and end their business year closing old accounts and start fresh as per traditional Hindu financial year ending and new beginning for many still in India.

There are many stories connected to this festival called Dhanteras but Diwali begins with this festival day and celebrations start from this auspicious date onwards in 4 Days celebrations of DIWALI festival.
